Who decides who is selected?
2 pence - A vote would ensure the winner has the support of most managers. And the losers can have no complaints.
Basically a fair process = no complaints.

Just picking up on one of your posts, where you said Gazza picked Garfy for the RM job. Probably inaccurate knowing you, so I just wanted the process explained. Is it one person, or several, who decide? That's all.

It's ultimately malky who decides.

He's got a tough decision there alright. If every manager put a 'like' on their preferred choice - on the CV thread - it could give him an indicator of where the general consensus lies?

And only 3 candidates for this position? Woeful. Stu, The two BMs, Winzor, Theo and Maundy could all easily succeed there. And what about the Dutchman, The Argentinian, The Italian, The Serbo-Croat (?), and John. All could handle the weekly slatings/hammerings that Garfy will no doubt chuck at them! Thought there would be more.

The icing on the cake for me, would be if Rags woke up New Years Day and thought 'You know what, why don't I take Villa to the top? Why don't I show them how to do it? I've created this teutonic monster whilst neglecting my northern roots. '

Yes it does, but at least the most popular would have a lot of backing, and so a decent shot at it.

Some managers just would not fit the profile of this club. All the photo- shoots, press conferences, etc, just doesn't work. E.g. As tactically astute as Dowie was, you could just never see him being the Face of Barca, could you?

Yes it does, but at least the most popular would have a lot of backing, and so a decent shot at it. What does a manager need backing for? Garfy didn't get stick because he failed, he got stick because everyone knew he shouldn't have got the job. He had taken an elite team down to div 2. Loaned out his star midfielder whilst he stayed there playing for abs. Had an awful record if you looked at the stats. And above all else, wasn't even in the running for the role until popularity became involved and people said he was a good guy. He is a good guy. But he isn't a good manager I'm afraid, and the top clubs need good managers.

I see, and agree with all you say. The confusing bit is popularity vs real backing. If you see what I mean. It does hinge on how you define/classify a 'good manager'. Rather than 'Mr Popular'.?
