Hmmmm... I'm really starting to wonder about the game engine. I have no idea how Lyon grabbed the win with a far inferior squad, no tactical advantage and a defender sent off early in the 48th min. Come on Bryn, that's the joy of the game, do you believe that the game should be purley stats and go to plan with Inter winning every week? And to be fair you were already two nil down when they got a man sent off, plus they brought on a extra defender and then played defensively and you never went for it and stayed playing N. Fair result in my eyes, Lyon love the FA Cup!!

Haha! I knew this would come. I don't mind the odd result going wrong. The fact, however is, Lyon played with one 17 rated defender, two 18 rated midfielders and one 19 rated attacker. He had players with fitness of 91 and 95, a keeper who's 25 rated and he's bottom of Division three. The fact is my team was far superior in skill and fitness while there was no tactical advantage for either side. He only switched to defensive in the 80th minute, so I had plenty of time to score when he was down to three defenders. I don't think this is the first freak result this season, so I'm not only referring to this game. We don't have to look far; Ajax must have similar thoughts on their defeat to Sunderland where they had tactical advantage and, again, a far superior squad. Another questionable result is Juventus 1-3 Newcastle and there are many more. It's just very frustrating when you know it doesn't make sense. I might consider selling all my 20+ players and getting some tired 17 raters to win me my games We'll see how the season progresses.

Freak results do happen that's the joy of the game, if they didn't happen I'd be one successful manager, surely I deserve to win every game and how boring would that be!! ;D Firstly you were never playing at any time against 3 defenders, always 5, well 5 for a couple of minutes. Secondly Lyon went C after half time so sitting back more, before going D late on. You'll need all th freak results you can get when you come over my place shortly mate, so don't knock 'em!

He started the game with 4 defenders. After 45min he substituted one defender for the only defensive sub and had one sent off after 48min which means he played the remaining game with 3 defenders. Where do you read 5 defenders???

I agree with Bryn and I already think about it, if you look to the result for Group B, C and G we know there is lucky win (sometime), but some of them is not make any sense, we all know Inter is very strong team but he still losing another one Juventus this one Juventus | Newcastle Attempts on Goal : 26 | 10 Off target : 16 | 4 On target : 10 | 6 Possession : 67 | 33 Corners : 4 | 2 Red Cards : 0 | 1 Yellow Cards : 2 | 3 Subs Used : 3 | 2 Fouls : 16 | 10 Key Tackles : 7 | 9 Key Passes : 22 | 13 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Final Score : Juventus 1 - 3 Newcastle

Don't disagree with this as the stats speak for them selves really.
I find it intresting though that when you look at Inter and Barca they both have 4 players with secondary skills (10+) Then Lyon have 7 with 5/6 just under and Newcastle have 14?
I know Tony believes in secondary skills, that they must account for something! So it's no surprise that not only does he have a first team full of them, that his reserves are riddled with them aswell?
It's probably just a freak result, as i carn't see the secondary skills making that much of an impact, if they did these teams would be doing well in the league also!
But makes you wonder?

That's a good point Andie, but if you were to work out the true value of those secondary skills for the position the players are playing in, it wouldn't be close to what Inter, Juve or Barca boast in first skill alone.

it doesn't make a difference how big or small a factor is, it all counts!

To be honest I think I had a lucky win with my FA cup match, I played against weaker team with 92% fitness for two matches in the cup and they still control the match !!!

I honestly haven't read all the match reports in detail, but what I have read is Lyon vs Barca and for me there is key moments in the game that can be explained, others I would honestly say was actually luck or a random event!
