Guys I’ve had a little chat with Malky while we are working today and suggested to him that maybe to keep the reserve league interesting maybe change the skill cap for the player and swap it for an age cap To make it a bit more realistic. Also would get better chance to build up some real superstars. Just a sugggestion thought I’d put it out there for some feedback.

That idea has merit. 23yr cap - move up at 24? Would the ages simply be altered, or would we have Scout u20s only to rebuild. Also, a few very young reserve teams would instantly benefit.

Yeah move them up at 24 or ship them out if they are not good enough for the first team could also help loan markets and spread money around if smaller clubs can build good youth players the big teams will come sniffing with big bucks. Like I said only an idea but could be worth looking at.

Like I said only an idea but could be worth looking at. I think 24 is way too high for this, for example next season I could have 30 rated Shaw playing in the reserves, 28 rated De Bruyn along with 27 rated Strok and Lombardo playing there. If anything the max age should be 21/22 - Just realised I read it a bit wrong, moving up at 24. This only excludes Shaw from it. If anything this would need to be tailored to different positions, can't have Barca's Son and Odegaard (as an example) gaining abs at a rate that leaves them a 24 year old 32 FW. The huge gap in skill ratings is what kills this idea for me. If anything we would need to introduce a skill cap like keepers have and under 18s have with the +3.999. Any player playing in the reserve can't go over 3 skill ratings over their age? So a 23 26.999 would be the best player the youth team could have which still makes great youth players but you'd need to decide when to move them to the first team to maximise their development. This could possibly be increased by 500 abs per level of academy. So a lv4 would mean 23 28.999 is possible but only for the clubs who invest for it. Whilst Lv1 is 23 27.499 Lv2 is 27.999 and Lv3 is 28.499

Didn't we used to have it as a youth league?
Maybe revert back to that format, 21 is the last year, promoted at 22.
Let them play there at whatever skill, let's have some beasts created

I personally think we should go back to a youth league of under 21's, there's very little youth development at the moment and the value of youth players has hit an all time low.
with the current scout missions spitting out high end players there's very little need to develop players on a whole anyway.
I think lower league teams with limited resources are unable to buy in top end players, so the gulf in class is growing every season.
Having a under 21 team would be more beneficial for most teams to produce first team quality players and lower league teams can generate home grown talent.

Agreed.
It was stopped being a youth league because managers complained once a player turned 22 they couldn't make it into their first team, but I think that was better than a now dead league.

Sounds like a good idea lads. Just give me plenty of notice if you want to go for it, so I can get it coded up for next season if required. It will affect a lot of things on the site.

It would cause some enormous changes. Some youth squads would be empty, so that would need to be considered.
As a suggestion to spark interest for all, why not remove all 22+ to the main squads, and then add new players to fill the gaps.
Then give each side the chance to gain one or two good youths free of charge.
Either via a raffle or something.

How about when age AND skill is hit they promote? I think most like the idea of the possibility of creating super youths though? Currently there are no super youths being raised at all minus about 5.

It would need to be all 22+ years promoted to the first teams and the void filled with cannon fodder for the first season after that it would be the managers responsibility to maintain it under the current guidelines.
Personally I think this time it will work as we have restrictions in place for developing youth appropriately.
