Didn't expect to see Benfica play for a replay, they got what they came for i suppose......
Tough to see how this replay is going to pan out, fitness doesn't look to much of an issue for either side.

Superb win for Sunderland against superior opposition, second half comeback and a late winner, classic cup stuff!
Steff I think you have to take some of the blame for playing C at home!? But Benfica are a team who normally come out fighting so I can see why you did it.
Cagey match between the big guns but they both had chances to win it. Replay at Madrid is a more juicy prospect! Ahmed will be happy with that I think.
A good showing by Werder but as expected Santos just too slick in the end.

Yeah a fantastic win for Sunderland, looks like spending the money on Alan is paying off.

Yeah a fantastic win for Sunderland, looks like spending the money on Alan is paying off. Would be nice if Alan's final game in Elite was scoring the winning goal in the cup final. Toby spent 9M on him for one season. Teams at the low end have maybe 20M transfer budget per season at most (excluding any profit from selling players on). Is it better to try and build a quality team from the bottom, or spend most of your money on 1 or 2 stars in their 30s and build a pretty average and cheap team around them? I have gone for the first option (look how well that's working) but I wonder if the second is better.

But if Alan makes the difference and ends up getting them to the final and promoted you could argue that 9m was money well spent. But as with any signing it's a gamble and I can see both sides of the argument.

Yeah I think it may be worth shelling out that money every couple of seasons, then trying to assemble the rest of the team for peanuts.

Well that was an interesting game.
When I saw the line ups, I thought I would win at a canter, what with us both playing E and me having 2 extra midfielders.
But it appeared we were slow out of the blocks both halves with Ahmeds boys coming at us strong both we gradually got into the game, having our bast spell on the hour mark for 15 minutes both Real found a second wind and pushed on for the win in the final 10.
Overall a fair result I'd say with maybe Real edging it, and with my keeper coming away with the MOM you can't really argue with that.
The replay should be another great battle, maybe playing away could play into our favour.

My sheet is done, more than usual conditionals. Wanna get to the final in this cup, having fell early in the other.

Really don't understand ahmeds tactics against Munich, he has the squad to compete but chooses to line up like a div3 team would.

I thought after a more positive approach than usual for the 1st game, Real Madrid would have went for it in big style in the second game? I was really shocked to see how negative they where

Not the only ones who were shocked, couldn't believe he played for penalties, obviously felt his better keeper was the ticket to the semi's, although with the lack of attacking players on the field, I'd have expected my lot to win if it went that far, especially as I had set up to bring on my two attackers and attacking midfielder if the game was heading to a shoot out.
Crazy tactcis at home if you ask me but if it had paid off, we'd have been saying what a move, luckily for not only me but the game the positive approach paid off.

Its Ahmeds team and tactics and I don't want to criticise but we are allowed to comment! It looks clear to me that Real Madrid we're playing for a draw in the hope that lady luck would shine on them in penalties, but is this really how arguably the 2nd best team in the game would approach a home match which was definitely winnable? No disrespect to John or Bayern Munich but how do we expect to knock them off there perch if we don't stand up to them and try! For me I expected a much closer Elite League this season with at least 3 teams still going for the league at this stage, but from what I've seen for the Real Madrid v Bayern Munch Barcelona v Bayern Munich match reports managers are not even willing to try! You get what you deserve end of season
