Not the start to the season I was looking for. Both sides lined up C so this was going to a be a cagey affair. I started with an incorrect conditional, pushing Kaka too high up the pitch. The game swung our way with an early red card for Sunderland, but then DF Glen managed to pick up a second yellow in only 17 mins to redress the balance. With more space in the park now the game was more open. Eventually Sunderland sealed it from the spot after a quick goal for each side after half time. We pushed at the end but one or two minds were still on their summer break and we couldn't find an equaliser. 10 saves from Locke between the the Black Cats sticks tells its own story.
Elsewhere... outrageous pinball game at the Bridge between last season's Div 2 relegation rivals. Oddly defensive tactics from Scott P in a surely winnable game (which buggered up my predictions...). PSG come from 2 down in an entertaining start to their EFL career. Not such a great start in Manchester, a bad day for J_Hart. And Pezza played it cagey and then nicked all the points at the death - misery for the long-distance travelling Toon fans.
