Some drama as the "4 point club" scrapped it out for the last places...
SHOCKER IN SCHALKE (says the Sun) as their rivals Werder banged in 5 to secure their place. Two teams that needed damage limitation were Celtic and Atletico, but against in-form Elite opponents they went out on goal difference, while Ajax sneaked through. And the mighty Aberdeen put in a storming performance to clinch the last place, despite a late rally from Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Scalp of the round goes to regular giant-killers Lyon, whose 541L completely killed their game and took them through at the expense of cup specialists Santos.
Not delighted with the draw, but we've limited Bayern to a couple of goals in the past, and they aren't the force they once were. Then again their qualification with 13 goals for, none against, is ominous...
Well done to Villa for not just getting through, but in the top half as well.

Finally get my first win of the season so happy with that. As we thought 4 points wasn't enough to get through... Not that I wanted Munich away, good luck Aberdeen!

We're very pleased to have made it through as we're focusing on cups this season. Celtic must be gutted, like Dan says, after going out on goal difference. A simple D tactic with five or six defenders would have done the job.

Sorry to the fans and anyone who ventured into the match report for Lyon v Santos.
Yes i killed the game to get a draw and make it through. I hate doing it but progressing was important to us and we have a winnable game against Roma in the next round.

Happy with the win but it came at a cost with McInally now out for two weeks - hopefully Morison can step up to the plate. Home draw against Marseille in the next round - difficult one! : /

Well we completed the perfect cup round. Going one better than we did in the previous 2 games. Modric once again showing what an important squad player he is.
Happy to top the group, not that it was ever my plan and happy enough with the draw. Ahmed very unlucky to end up with a tie against a strong Ajax side.
Surprised to see 4 points getting teams through thought it would have been the 5 mark.

Very happy to be going through with the full 9pts on the board too, good goal difference with scoring 8 and conceding 0. 1 of 5 teams to get the max points joining the likes of Bayern and Madrid. earning a home tie in the next round
