not really, when you consider the fact I could have had him for 14 more seasons? if a 40 rated cap was put into place? Plus would of conceded on average 7/8 goals a season.
That's why I am really against a 40 cap, keepers around the 40 mark rarely concede ask John. You don't mind playing against a team with that kind of keeper for a season, like Bayern. but to potentially play against those kind of keepers season after season after season would be no fun at all.

If a cap was introduced what would you set it at, 37, 38?

It would have to be 38 but I wouldn't mind a keeper hitting the 40's if it was a season or so then retires. It's more realistic, as far as every player is different, some hit there potential others don't before they retire rather than a bunch of 40 rated capped clones.
For me that's the point, every player is different and should stay that way. If a player lives up to his potential or exceeds it, fair enough but not to the point it ruins the game, super players are a product of playing the system rather than the game.
Why should these managers be rewarded by allowing these players to stay in the game and flourish but your saying yeah we screwed up with bonuses but you can keep that player for the next 10 seasons? But Capped!
I'm saying, we have those players, age them and bring them in line with every other player in the game, to a point they will develop individually but with in the boundaries of the game that is acceptable!

2 different solutions to the same problem.
Your setting an upper limit of skill.
I'm setting an upper limit with age.
Both could work?

I suppose the other problem is sorting out the compo for those affected by the changes, could end up getting messy, as we're talking bulk rather than individual like was the case with Lloris.

Lloris was an exception, no matter what you did he wouldn't be affected in the long term, where as these players can be?

Surely you can't just age/reduce some players and not the rest? i.e you reduced a 37 rated 24 age keeper to 34. But another manager has a 34 rated 24 age keeper that doesn't get touched. I think the only way to do it is take 2/3 points off all keepers if your gonna do it. I also don't like the idea of a cap of 40. Not sure how we solve this really, certainly increasing reserve keeper rating to 30 aint gonna help for sure!

What?
"i.e you reduced a 37 rated 24 age keeper to 34.
But another manager has a 34 rated 24 age keeper that doesn't get touched."
34 rated at 24 would be 29??

I don't like the idea of changing the ages of keepers at all - a team with a good young keeper suddenly ends up with a really old keeper - has massive implications on the chance of bringing through a replacement! Plus it makes no sense that they would suddenly age - would there be enough young keepers in the game to fill all the teams if a lot of current keepers are aged suddenly?
I think the best option is a cap, set at a level which is realistic, ie if 40 rated doesnt concede hardly any goals then it should be lower eg 38, or whatever level is realistic. I think its bad for a game when a team can use a ridiculous keeper and barely concede all season. Would be better if trophies were decided on tactics and skill rather than just having a super keeper.

Returned from holiday, stumbled through this 7 pages, and for what it's worth, here's my opinion:
FA Cup - Not a big issue for me, can live with the idea of seeding on base of league results previous season.
Attendances - I like the idea of a maximum amount of fans a league can have.
Loans - 3 in 3 out
T Tactic - Difficult thing as non sheeting mostly is the beginning of a manager to leave the game. The punishment can't be too hard, as a new manager who takes over that team would face a lousy team. So I prefer non sheeting teams play N and get punished by no abs. (Maybe those not awarded abs can be added afterwards to the new manager?)
Scouts - I like the idea of putting in some new players in the game, where a div. 3 team has even change to get a good player as an Elite team. How this is done, makes no difference to be.
Reserves - Would like to see more profit for the managers who put effort in reserves. Higher abs? Price money for champions? I like the idea of a training academy as well. To avoid richer teams getting the most advantage, you can introduce different stages or a random training profit.
Ratings - Overall, I like the idea of older players (GK, DF, MF, and FW) getting less abs (say from age 27+) or even loose abs (say from age 34+). Players will grow less quick. Second advantage of this is some action in the transfer market. Elite teams will be more willing to sell a player who once was a star and now is decreasing, as such a player could be of interest for teams in lower divisions.

Not to keep banging on about this, but like everyone else I am getting fed up of the whole keeper debate and can only see it as an ongoing seasonal problem. At the end of the day, a mistake was made which resulted in un-realistic keeper progression and in some cases managers playing the system rather than the game. So why should these managers/keepers be allowed?? Capping keepers at 38/40 serves no purpose to the game other than rewarding those teams with a top end keeper for many many seasons to come. That's what I think is unrealistic, especially in a game like this where player progression is a large part of it. We have a new site and as far as I am concern a new start, if we look at all players in the game and re-rate age in accordance to potential then every player, team and manager is set within the limits of the game what's fair to everyone. I agree with Theo, It would be better if trophies were decided on tactics and skill rather than just having a super keeper. A super keeper is usually a keeper who is young and very highly skilled, capping them will address the skill part but not the age as far as i'm concerned. As I see a top end keeper who is young as an unfair advantage over the long term.

In a nutshell:
Rolling back there skill = forwards progressing to quick Reducing abs gained = a lot of negative abs for lower keepers Skill cap = no progressions but long life Aged = progression and fair for all.

This subject is still giving me hours of unrest but will be giving it my full attention once the season ends on monday! Maybe someone in the mean time could look at the options available to us from what has been discussed and set up a poll to get an idea on what managers believe is the 'correct' way forward long term, I'm not looking for a season or two fix, I want a game fix! For the start of next season, the keeper abs were fixed last season so this is just about the existing problem
